Since Marco entered the country without inspection, his path to residency required the approval of a provisional unlawful presence waiver (I-601A) and an appointment at the consulate in Guatemala. The fear of leaving and not being able to return was his greatest emotional obstacle. After years of waiting, he finally traveled for his interview, facing his fears head-on.
The Biggest Mistake: Not Starting Sooner
Upon returning to the United States as a legal resident, Marco experienced an indescribable sense of relief. His entry through the airport was simple, quick, and respectful, debunking many of the fears that circulate on social media.
"Now I regret not having done it sooner. If I had gotten married and started the process a long time ago, I would have had my papers for many years by now". [33:57]
